Happy Easter, all.
My folks and the boys just left after a delightful Easter brunch at the HoT. I feel like the postal service of entertainment--neither rain, nor snow, nor a complete breakdown of household order and hygiene shall stop me from delivering a holiday festivus. With the requisite signature cocktail, of course. Which Mr. Pyle has dubbed the "evil juice." Heh. I dig it. So now I'm having a lovely glass of rose, enjoying a beautiful afternoon on the porch, doing nothing of an AT-related nature. Eric gets back tonight, so we'll be hitting it hard tomorrow. But for now, I just need a little relaxing.
Yesterday was more trail mix. When you have to pull together 6 months of stuff, with as much variety as possible, it's WAY harder than you think. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time lately loitering in the snack-food aisles of various retail outlets, pondering new and increasingly bizarre combinations.
Just as an FYI, preparing for a 2100 mile, 6 month trip is kind of involved. The longest trip I've done previously was only one month, and I didn't even ration it fully myself. Buying, preparing and packaging food for 2 people for 6 months is quite an experience. It looks like a Costco exploded in my house. There are no flat surfaces not currently covered with either food or gear at the moment. So I was ridiculously proud of myself for excavating the dining room table, setting it, and serving brunch for 7 this afternoon. I do get lots of help and delicious contributions from the parents and the boys. :)
The plan is to start posting more regularly until we're on the trail. Then, I'll probably write something for every day and post weekly, when we're in town.
