Into the woods again!

Greetings to anyone still out there paying attention!
The blog will be picking up again, to follow along on my new job.
The good news is that I'm heading back to the trail--AND getting paid to do it!!
The bad news is that I will be a Nachita without her Pancho.
Starting at the end of February, I will be the caretaker on Springer Mountain for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. I'll be living near the shelter on Springer in my tent, trying to herd the cats--I mean the thru-hikers heading out for Maine.
I am super excited about this opportunity to return to the trail community. (Do you ever really leave?)
So stay tuned, there is much more to come!

  1. Congrats Nachita!
That sounds so exciting! You get to welcome the whole freshman class to the AT. How long is the job for? Just for thru-hiker season? I'm super jealous.
    Best to you and Pancho!

  2. Thanks Click!
I'm really looking forward to it, especially since we didn't actually start in GA. I start training next Friday, then on the mountain March 1-May 21.
    Greetings to Longtime!

  3. Hey Nachita! Great to hear your news; congratulations! I remember starting out at Springer – there were so many people with such big hopes, so little experience, and too much gear! (myself included, I’m sure). It’s great that you’ll get to meet all those folks starting the 2013 season. Have a great time, and I wish you warm weather!
